St Mary of Egypt
Roswell, Georgia
St. Mary of Egypt is a Russian Orthodox Church in Roswell, Georgia. Working with the church leadership, Place Services, Inc. Architecture & Engineering developed a conceptual design for a future clergy house for visiting priests.
The concept for the project was to design a new two-story clergy house, with an artist’s studio in the attic, to complement the existing sanctuary building but subtly introduce Russian Orthodox Church architectural forms onto the new building. The architecture of the clergy house was designed to be a stunning fusion of traditional Russian Orthodox Church architecture and contemporary building elements. The clergy house envelope included stone veneer, operable aluminum windows, fine-textured stucco, gold-painted accents, artisan-created wood motifs, and a large onion dome topped with a golden cross.
Inside the clergy house, the design included a small chapel, sanctuary, fellowship hall, commercial kitchen, laundry room, guest bedrooms, and guest bathrooms. The attic space was designed as an artist’s studio for visiting priests. Overall, the architectural design of St Mary of Egypt’s new clergy house was a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation.
